GNPC denies putting pressure on Russian LukOil
Ghana’s state-owned petroleum company, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is reported to be putting pressure on Russian oil company, LukOil to commit to wider involvement in Ghana’s economy.
But the GNPC has denied this assertion. Mr. Thomas Manu, the Director of Exploration and Operations at the GNPC has told ghanabusinessnews.com, that the GNPC is not putting pressure on LukOil.
According to him all stakeholders in Ghana’s oil sector are expected to respect Ghana’s petroleum law and “all must commit to it. We are not putting pressure on LukOil,” he said.
He said LukOil has made minimum commitment, and the Russian oil company is not being asked to do more than what it is supposed to do.
LukOil, which is the second largest oil producer in Russia leads an oil joint-venture with Vanco and the GNPC for exploration and production at Ghana’s offshore Cape Three Points Deep Water.
