Ghanaian actor/director Godwin Kotey passes away
Ghanaian actor and film director Godwin Kotey has died, information reaching ghanabusinessnews.com says.
It is not clear when Mr Kotey passed away but ace film producer and director Leila Afua Djansi who confirmed the death of Godwin Kotey today March 6, 2012 on her Facebook page posted “death has claimed another. I was delaying responding to one of his emails only to hear he’s gone.”
Already people have been showing their last respect on Godwin Kotey’s Facebook page.
Godwin Kotey directed Smash TV in 1996 and 1997 and once popular TV show Taxi Driver in 1999. He was also one of the directors that took the ACRAG and Chartered Institute of Marketing award for Best Television Programme of the year for Taxi Driver, according to his official website.
In 2001 at the prestigious African Film Festival in Burkina Faso – FESPACO Kotey won an award for Ghana with his film, The Scent of Danger.
He was also the Creative Director for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana in 2008.
He held a PhD in Speech Communication and a Masters in Theatre Arts. He attended the University of Ghana and the University of Southern Illinois, Carbondale. He attended high schools at Tema Secondary School and Ghanata Secondary School.
