Chinese government supports Ghana Red Cross Society
Professor Kwabena Mante Bosompem, President, Ghana Red Cross Society, on Tuesday said with continuous globalization the activities of specialized organizations would continue to make greater impacts on society.
He said societies like the Red Cross across the world continued to make greater impact in the promotion of peace, friendship and shared prosperity of peoples from across different cultures.
Prof Mante Bosompem made this observation during the handing-over of non-emergency items worth $200,000 by the Red Cross Society of China to the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) in Accra.
He said the donation was to strengthen the capacity of the GRCS and in line with the fundamental principle of universality, which enjoins all members of the Global Red Cross Movement to support less endowed members whenever possible.
The items include an ambulance, a Haval H5 vehicle, 90 sets of CPR Manikin, 15 set of laptop computers, 30 sets of desktop computers, 120 sets of spine board, 80 sets of splint, and 40 set of basket stretchers.
The rest are 120 sets of foldable stretchers, 500 sets of first aid kits, and 20 sets each of a two-way radio, mobile phones and digital cameras, he added.
Prof. Mante Bosompem said since the establishment of the GRCS, it has remained committed to its purpose, living up to its vision to alleviate the suffering of the vulnerable through mobilization of the power of humanity.
He expressed gratitude to the China Red Cross Society (CRCS) for the generous donation and assured that the GRCS would utilize the gifts in line with their philosophy of promoting sustainable innovative partnership.
“The CRCS has always supported us in our quest for organisational strengthening which cuts across all facets of their development agenda, be it institutional or human resource development, and the items would impact positively on their service delivery,” he added.
Mr Wenzhi Gao, leader of the delegation from China, presenting the items said, Ghana and China had helped each other over the years and had been in partnership for a very long time.
He said the presentation was to help in making Ghanaians live healthy and happy lives within their families and communities, in order to promote a healthy development.
Mr Gao noted that countries could not develop as expected without international corporation, saying partnership helps strengthen the economy of countries for effective development.
He thanked the Ghana Red Cross Society for the warm reception and hoped to continue to work together to strengthen the partnership for the benefit of both countries.
