Iran agrees to train Ghanaian students in petroleum, petrochemical engineering

The Iranian Government on Wednesday offered to train Ghanaian undergraduate students in Petroleum and Petrochemical Engineering to equip them with skills to harness the oil and gas industry.

Both Ghana and Iran have also agreed to exchange high ranking political, economic and cultural delegations with the objective of enhancing consultations between the two countries through a permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation.

This formed part of a communiqué signed between the two countries as part of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s two-day visit to Ghana.

The communiqué, which was signed by Hannah Tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and Ali Akbar Salehi, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, also focused on terrorism, peace in the Middle East, African Development and other cooperation.

On terrorism, the two countries unanimously condemned any set of terrorism anywhere in the world and urged all countries and groups engaged in those practices to resolve their differences through dialogue.

Ghana and Iran also welcomed the need for continuous dialogue in bringing peace, stability and security to the region while pledging their support for the maintenance of peace and stability in Mali, Central Africa Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

President Ahmadinejad, who earlier held a press briefing, visited and laid wreaths at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.

He also delivered a paper at the Islamic University College at East Legon and has since left Ghana for home.
