Mahama appoints Kobby Akyeampong to restructure GYEEDA
The President, John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Kwabena Akyeampong, a former deputy Minister for the Interior to take charge of restructuring the the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).
A press statement from the Office of the President issued today October 22, 2013 says Mr. Akyeampong will be in charge of the restructuring and reorganization of the operations of the Agency.
“Mr. Akyeampong who will be working up to the Chief of Staff, will be responsible for the management of GYEEDA, and coordinate the President’s directive for a full restructuring and development of a bill to be presented to parliament to govern the operations of the Agency,” the statement added.
The GYEEDA which has been cited for corruption is reported to have failed to account for state funds running into millions of Ghana cedis.
Meanwhile, 15 people implicated in the scandal who were arrested for questioning by the police have been granted bail, and a docket is being prepared on them for onward submission to the Attorney General’s Department, for advice, the Ghanaian Times newspaper has reported.
