Ghanaian man found dead in river identified

Police in Grandview have identified the body of a Ghanaian man who was found dead in the Olentangy River, Monday January 5, 2009, media reports from Ohio, US have said.

It will be recalled that ghanabusinessnews.com carried a story January 11, 2009 about the body of an unidentified Ghanaian man found dead beside a river.

The body has been identified as that of 25-year-old Francis Dzubu of Columbus.

Reports quoting Grandview Police Detective, Carol Harper say the body was identified using fingerprints.

“The evidence points to a suicide,” Harper said. “He had sent out e-mails indicating he intended to commit suicide.”

However, autopsy results are expected to help confirm whether Dzubu did commit suicide, police said.

The body of the man, who is said to have been a student of Ohio State University, was found by a jogger beneath a railroad bridge in the south-east corner of Grandview Heights. The body according to the police was frozen in a tangle of wood and other debris along the riverbank and had been there for “an extended period.”

At that time police were unable to immediately identify whether the body was a male or female due to decomposition.
