USADF supports farmers
The United States African Development Foundation (USADF), has signed an agreement for a grant to support Pig Farmers and Processors Association in Ejisu Juaben District in the Ashanti Region.
A Statement issued by the Foundation to the GNA in Accra said the four-year grant is designed to increase the incomes of the association’s 45 members and raise their quality of life.
It said the funds would be used to purchase feed storage equipment and a vehicle to facilitate delivery of products, training, installing electricity, and developing promotional materials
The statement indicated that Mr. Lloyd Pierson, President of USADF, said that “By directly funding the Association, USADF is promoting economic development at the grassroots level in Ghana”.
He said the association which reared pigs, processed and marketed pork, and assisted members to obtain reasonable prices for its products, would take advantage of the demand for such products to increase production.
Mr. Pierson said “However, outdated and obsolete technology, weak internal and market capacities, and lack of working capital prevent the company from capitalizing on the market demand”.
The statement said USADF has been operating in Ghana since 1984 with its current portfolio at twenty-two investment projects totalling nearly 4.6 million dollars.
USADF is a United States Government agency dedicated to expanding access to economic opportunity in Africa and has been operating in 20 African nations for the past 25 years.
