Short resumes duty August 3, 2009
Mr Emile Francis Short, Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), will resume office on Monday, August 3.
This was contained in a statement issued by Ms Anna Bossman, Acting Commissioner of CHRAJ, on Monday in Accra.
The statement said Mr Short’s resumption of duty followed the passing of a resolution by the United Nations Security Council permitting Mr Short to return to his position as Commissioner.
In March 2004 Mr Short was granted indefinite leave of absence by former President John Agyekum Kufuor to take up an appointment as an Ad litem Judge with the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania.
The statement said the judges who served on the tribunal represented their countries and were elected by the United Nations General Assembly.
The tribunal was established by the United Nations to prosecute persons responsible for genocide, crime against humanity and war crimes committed in Rwanda in 1994.
