Farmer fined GH¢300 for stealing mobile phone

Kofi Dakeh, a farmer who stole a mobile phone from a “chop” bar, was on Monday convicted to a fine of GH¢300 by the Kade Magistrate Court.

In default, Dakeh who pleaded guilty, will go to prison for nine months in hard labour.

Police Chief Inspector Eric Tetteh Zorh told the court that on July 24 Kingsley Boateng, the complainant, went to a “chop” bar for a meal and left his mobile phone there.

A few minutes later, he remembered and returned to the bar to pick the item but could not find it.

The prosecutor said the “chop” bar operator told him that Dakeh was the only person who visited the place after him.

He traced Dakeh to his house and confronted him about the phone but he denied knowledge of it.

Not convinced, the complainant with the assistance of a brother went to Dakeh’s house, took him to the Pramkese police station where he admitted stealing the phone.

Dakeh led the police to his house where the item was retrieved from a black polythene bag under a plantain tree near his house.
