Court to sentence woman for non-payment of hotel bills
A circuit court ‘A’ in Tema, on Monday convicted a 48-year-old unemployed woman, who lodged at Janus hotel at Tema Community 18 with her family for four months and bolted without settling their GH¢2,600 bill.
Benedicta Sowah was convicted on her own plea of guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretence but sentence was deferred to August 31.
Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere, told the court presided over by Mrs Lorinda Owusu that Sowah, her husband and their three children checked in at the hotel in August last year.
Prosecution said that after staying there for some weeks, her husband left her and the children and never returned.
Chief Inspector Otchere said in the third week of November last year, the woman also sneaked out of the hotel, leaving behind the children, who also blotted some few days later.
Prosecution said that the accountant of the hotel, the complainant, spotted the woman at the 37 Military Hospital on August 9 this year and raised the alarm leading to her arrest.
