Primary school gets GH¢20,000 ICT Centre

A GH¢20,000 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre built for the Wamaase D/A Primary School in the Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region was  inaugurated on Tuesday. Akate Farms and Trading Company Limited in Kumasi provided the funding.

Mr Idisah Musah, Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE), said the government was determined to strengthen the teaching of ICT in schools.

This, he said, was to make education a real catalyst for the nation’s socio-economic development.

The DCE praised the Management of the Company for the gesture and encouraged the school children to make judicious use of the centre to become computer literate.

Alhaji Abdul Salam Akate, 2007 National Best Farmer and Managing Director of the Company, said the Centre was part of the company’s social responsibility to the people who gave out the land for the farming activities.

The inauguration of the centre coincided with the 20th anniversary celebration of the company.

Alhaji Akate advised the pupils to take advantage of the facility and learn hard.

Nana Osei Bosompim III, Chief of Adako-Jechie, said globalization had made it imperative for school children and students to be more competent in the use of the computer.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the Company donated wheel chairs, crates of eggs, oranges, iron rods and 100 bags of cement, all valued at GH¢6,500.00, to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Kumasi Central Mosque.
