Bill Gates now on Twitter after leaving Facebook

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft is now on Twitter the 140-character microblogging site, the msnbc.com reports.

But in July 2009, Bill Gates quit the biggest social networking site, Facebook because he said too many people wanted to be his friends.

Gates told an audience in New Delhi where he was being honured for charity work last year that he had tried out Facebook but ended up with “10,000 people wanting to be my friends”.

Gates, the report said joined the ranks of those on the microblogging site on Tuesday with this tweet: “‘Hello World.’ Hard at work on my foundation letter — publishing on 1/25.”

Twitter’s popularity soared last year when Oprah Winfrey joined the site, since then Twitter’s membership profile has continued to grow, but the site is yet to make money.
