President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday said Ghana was ready to contribute to the growth of democratic governance of Nigeria for the mutual benefit of both countries.

He patted Nigeria on the back for maintaining peace in the absence of President Umaru Yar’Adua, who is receiving medical attention abroad, and said it was time the two countries worked together to promote peace and development for the benefit of their peoples.

In a chat with Acting Nigeria President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who called on him ahead of 37th Summit of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, President Mills stressed unity and closer links between the two nations within the West African integration agenda.

He identified peace and good governance as pre-requisites for development and commended the Acting President on his role for maintaining peace in that country.

President Mills wished Nigeria the best and called for closer collaboration to address the challenges on regional integration.

Acting President Jonathan praised Ghana on her democratic credentials and called for closer ties to strengthen their bonds.

Former Nigeria Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar also called on President Mills.

President Mills commended the former leader for his peace missions, describing him as a born peace maker, and urged him to keep up the good work in ensuring relative peace in Sudan.
