Man fined GH¢8,000 for forging signature and stealing

The Tema Circuit Court ‘A,’ on Thursday convicted a fuel pump operator to a fine of GH¢8,000 for forging documents and stealing.
Bismarck Amedekey will, in default, serve five years imprisonment in hard labour. He pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs Lorinda Owusu, fined him GH¢8,000 on each count of forgery and stealing.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere, said the complainant, a transport owner, was a customer of the Allied Fuel Station at Lashibi where the convict was a fuel pump operator.
He said the complainant entered into an agreement with management of the fuel station to receive fuel on credit and pay at the end of every month.

The prosecution told the court that in 2008, the complainant detected that the convict had been forging his signature since 2006.

Chief Inspector Otchere said the convict signed coupons, as well as sold fuel in the name of the complainant and debited him with the cost.

He said the complainant lodged a complaint with the Police when he realized that a total amount of GH¢6,900 worth of fuel, had been sold out in his name by Amedekey.

The prosecution said the convict who fled to Nigeria, was apprehended by INTERPOL, and was repatriated to Ghana.
