World Bank organizes debate on export competitiveness

The World Bank Group is organizing a debate on export competitiveness in Accra, today Monday March 29, 2010.

The Bank is organizing the debate in collaboration with several African countries, the Bank has said in an invitation letter to ghanabusinessnews.com.

The Bank describes the event as a “groundbreaking debate among  world-class experts and African policymakers on The Meaning of Export Competitiveness in the African Context and How do Countries Achieve it?”

The debate is part of a new World Bank Institute (WBI) initiative on Rethinking Development with a focus this year on Rethinking Globalization in a post Crisis Context, the letter added.

The debate will take place at the GIMPA Distance Learning Centre (GIMPA DLC), Greenhill, Achimota at 1:30 pm with video links to Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia, and Washington DC.

Currently, confirmed debaters include Professor Alice Amsden from MIT, Professor Bailey Klinger from Harvard University, Professor Ademola Oyejide from University of Ibadan (Nigeria), and Dr. Cadman Mills, Special Advisor to the President, among others.

Participants in satellite sites will be able to interact with experts in the main venue and with each other.
