Farmer in court for stealing fermented cocoa beans

The Kade District Magistrate Court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, on Monday granted GH¢800 bail to Alex Odame, a farmer, who was arraigned before the court for stealing fermented cocoa beans belonging to a female farmer.

Odame, who pleaded not guilty, would re-appear on April 08.

Police Inspector D. T. Nartey, prosecuting said both the accused and the complainant, Elizabeth Korang, were farmers living at Pramkuma near Akyem Takyimang.

He said on February 2, this year, Elizabeth visited her cocoa farm and found that a quantity of cocoa beans she had heaped to ferment had been stolen.

She immediately suspected the accused and one Kofi Afagbedzi with whom she shared common boundary and accordingly made a report to the Akyem Takyimang police.

When Afagbedzi was arrested and his farm searched, the stolen fermented cocoa beans were found on his farm.

He, however, mentioned Odame as the one who sent the cocoa beans to his farm to dry but Odame could not be traced in the town.

On March 15, Odame was seen and arrested but he denied any involvement in the stealing of the beans.
