Kotoko split points with Lions
Kumasi Asante Kotoko and visiting Kpando Heart of Lions shared honours with a goal apiece in their Glo Premier League match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday.
It was Kotoko who came close to scoring in the ninth and 14th minutes but Baffour Gyan wasted both chances with poor shots.
Isaac Amoako in posts for Kotoko was called upon to make a brilliant save a minute later from Osei Banahene’s shot in a goalmouth melee.
The ‘Porcupine Warriors’ who fought like wounded tigers with inter-positional passes scored the opener in the 28th minute when Francis Coffie finished up with a pass from Ofosu Appiah in a build up.
Lions levelled up the scores two minutes later from a beautiful free kick taken by Daniel Acquaye just outside Kotoko’s box.
After the equaliser, Kotoko were awarded a penalty in the 47th minute when goalkeeper Stephen Ahorlu fouled Baffour Gyan in the box but Ofosu Appiah who opted for the kick shot into the waiting hands of the keeper.
Both teams improved on their game but it was Kotoko who had the upper hand as they laid siege on the vital area of Lions for most part of the second half but could not translate their chances into goals.
Lions came into the picture in the latter part of the game and nearly took the lead with substitute Gilbert Fiamenyo hitting the post with Osei Banahene also messing up the rebound on the stroke of full time.
Fiamenyo nearly found the target again a minute later but the striker wasted the opportunity to end the proceedings with each side failing to carry the day.
