Musician arrested for GH¢30,000 fraud
The Police on Tuesday arrested Kaakyire Aboagye, 37, a self-styled musician based at Odumase near Sunyani for defrauding unsuspecting victims of GH¢ 30,000.00 under the pretext of recruiting them to join his band to Italy.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Saviour Ahiamadi, Acting Brong–Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that in June this year, Aboagye approached Atta Frempa of Nkoranza, a witness in the case and posed as a musician who would travel to Italy with his band to work on his new album.
Convinced by Aboagye, Atta gave him GH¢ 150.00 on demand to commence the processing of his travelling documents and thereafter informed eight other people at Nkoranza about the deal.
The eight people who developed interest in the deal met Aboagye in Sunyani where he also collected various sums of money from them under the pretext of sending them to Italy.
ASP Ahiamadi said Aboagye pledged to deliver on his promise after collecting the monies and gave them a written agreement forging the signature of Sunyani-based lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen as a witness.
He said the complainants later contacted Nana Obiri Boahen with the written agreement but the lawyer denied any knowledge about the said agreement.
He said the lawyer later led the victims to the Regional Police Headquarters where a complaint was lodged.
ASP Ahiamadi said Aboagye upon interrogation admitted the offence and mentioned one Charles Adomah in Accra as the one who signed for Nana Obiri Boahen.
He stated that Aboagye would be arraigned for prosecution at the law court.
