Farmers attend forum on modern farming

Nkrankwanta Cocoa District Office of the Produce Buying Company(PBC) has held a forum for cocoa farmers in and around Appiakrom in the Dormaa municipality to introduce them to modern farming methods and economic opportunities.

A purchasing clerk of the company, Mr. Kofi Asante, urged the farmers to work closely with agricultural extension officers to ensure quality and maximum yield of cocoa.

He also appealed to them to take full advantage of government’s subsidy on fertilizer to enhance the fertility of land for the cash crop.

The chief farmer of Appiakrom, Opanin Kwaku Asamoah, appealed to Cocoaboard and the Dormaa Municipal Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, repair a broken bridge over the Atemsum stream, which had impeded the smooth conveyance of cash and food crops to nearby market centres.

The chief farmer also appealed for the immediate establishment of a kindergarten to take care of more than 250 kids who could walk the long distance to school in nearby towns.

Mr.Matthew K. Agyemang, secretary for Appiakrom Town Development Committee, appealed to Dormaa Municipal Assembly to create an additional spraying gang to beef up the number of gangs for a more efficient coverage of cocoa farms in the area.
