New Tomato Factory for Sefwi-Anhwiaso-Asawinso
A Tomato Factory is to be established at Sefwi-Anhwiaso-Asawinso as part of an initiative to create jobs for people in the area.
The project is a partnership between Cottage Itelie Industries Ghana Limited and the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly.
When operational, it would have the capacity to produce 4,000 tonnes of canned tomatoes every three months.
Mr. Moses Kofi Armah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, and the Northern Sector representative of Cottage Itelie, Mr. Frank Opoku, have jointly inspected the site for the project.
The DCE said the factory brings hope to particularly the unemployed youth in the area.
He appealed to the chiefs to release land to the young people to go into tomato cultivation.
Mr. Opoku promised the farmers tomatoes seeds and money to start their farms.
Mr. Bernard Agyemang-Duah, Head of the Bibiani branch of the Business Advisory Centre, said his outfit would provide the farmers with the needed technical assistance.
The Adontehene of the town, Nana Danso Ababio, welcomed the project and pledged that the chiefs support the project in though and deed.
They would give out land to individual farmers and groups who express interest in tomato farming.
Mr. Francis Nkrumah, the District Director of Food and Agriculture, discounted claims that agricultural lands in the Western Region could not support tomato cultivation.
