Nkoranza North Health Directorate holds workshop on H1N1

Nkoranza North District Directorate of Health Services has organised a day’s workshop at Busunya to educate stakeholders on the symptoms and effects of the H1N1 pandemic.

Madam Eva Saku, Nkoranza North District Public Health Nurse, said the 45 participants would in turn sensitize the people within their various areas about the pandemic.

She stated that the pandemic was air-borne and as such everyone was at risk of contracting it.

Madam Saku said victims would experience fever, nausea, cough, diarrhoea, headache and sore throat.

Other symptoms include joint pains, chills, running nose, muscle ache and short breath.

Madam Saku said since the disease was a killer, victims needed to be rushed to the hospital and those living with a victim in the same environment also required treatment.

Mr Peter Paul Anekor, Nkoranza North District Disease Control Officer, expressed concern about media speculations over the recent immunization exercise on the disease and said the news had an adverse effect on the exercise as some people got scared to get immunized.

He appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage especially on H1N1 cases and other health problems as that could have adverse effect on peoples’ lives.

He urged nurses to strictly go by the rules and regulations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) as regards immunization exercises to reduce the side effects after such immunizations.

Mr Sylvester Amankwaa-Koranteng, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director, who presided, commended the health officials for organizing the programme to sensitise the people about the disease and to save lives in the communities.

He advised the people to keep their surroundings clean to prevent the outbreak of epidemics.
