20-year-old man remanded for mobile phone theft

A 20 year-old driver’s mate accused of cell phone theft, has been remanded into prison custody by the Bibiani Circuit Court.

Kofi Sarki pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on Thursday, September 2.

Police Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah told the court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Ankamah that the complainant is a teacher at Sefwi-Yawkrom D/C Primary School, while the accused is a driver’s mate at Sefwi-Anhwiam.

On July 21, the lady teacher woke up at about 0400 hours and found out that someone had entered her room through the window and made away with her cell phone.

The prosecution said four days later the complainant dialed her cell phone number, using another phone line and the trick worked. A woman, who identified herself as Foriwaah at Sefwi-Nsawora answered.

Asked how she came by the SIM card, she mentioned Sarki as the one who left it behind when he visited her son.

The prosecution said the accused was therefore arrested. He admitted the offence during police interrogation and claimed he had sold the cell phone.

The police are yet to trace the alleged buyer.
