Hohoe Municipal generates GH¢840 from court cases
The Hohoe Municipal Environmental Office has generated GH¢840 through insanitary environmental related-issues between January and August this year.
Mr Daniel .A. Otoo, Municipal Environmental Officer, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, said the amount represents fines accruing from 17 court cases involving 25 individuals within the period.
He said the cases include overgrown weeds on compounds, accumulation of refuse, human excreta on compounds, failure to undergo medical screening, selling of unwholesome foods, insanitary goat pen and dirty bath-house and drains.
Mr Otoo said it generated GH¢30 from 18 court cases involving 28 individuals in 2009.
He urged the people to embrace environmental consciousness and cleanliness as a window to good health saying “cleanliness is next to Godliness.”
Mr Otoo said apart from creating awareness on environmental issues on Lolornyo FM, a local radio station, his outfit engages residents in routine house-to-house inspection exercises to educate the people.
He appealed to residents to collaborate with the Municipal Environmental Office to make the Municipality clean and healthy.
