Workshop for small-medium enterprises held in Sunyani

A five-day trainers of trainee workshop for proprietors of small scale and medium enterprises opened in Sunyani on Monday with a call on proprietors to identify basic problems that hindered the growth of their businesses.

The workshop is being organised by the Rural Infrastructure Coordinating Unit of the Community-Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP) under the auspices of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

The 40 participants attending the workshop comprised proprietors of batik tie and dye, soap making, fish farming and mushroom production drawn from Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo regions.

Mr. Salifu Mahama, the zonal coordinator for Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo regions of the CBRDP, expressed concern about the attitude of some participants “who make snacks and transport fares as their main agenda of attending workshops” instead of concentrating on topics that would help them improve their businesses.

He said the CBRDP had held workshops for participants but expressed regret that such workshops had failed to impact positively on their businesses because they did not recognize their usefulness.

Mr. Mahama said it was important to build the capacity of small and medium scale enterprises in record keeping, financial management and long term business plan to sharpen their knowledge and skills.
