Prostrate, cervical cancers identified as main killers in Ghana
Prostrate and cervical cancer have been identified as main killers among men and women, mainly 45 years and above, Pastor R.Y. P. Amponsah, of the Koforidua District of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has said.
He said the disease could be avoided or minimized since it could be described as a life-style disease.
Pastor Amponsah was speaking on “Cancer, Prostrate and Cervical” at the 2010 annual camp meeting of the Kade District of the East Ghana Conference of the church at Akwatia.
He said the disease could be the result of smoking, over consumption of alcohol, frequent sexual intercourse and lack of exercise.
It could also be hereditary, but that was not common.
Pastor Amponsah said some of the symptoms include frequent passing of urine at night, pains in the lower abdomen or blood in the urine or pain while urinating or having sexual intercourse.
Pastor Amponsah said it would be necessary for people to consult a doctor early on experiencing any of those symptoms and having periodic medical check-ups.
It is also helpful to have balanced diet with vegetables and fruits.
He said it was dangerous for women to douche using herbs.
