Group condemns call for CJ’s resignation
The Foundation for True Justice, a pro-democracy Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has condemned the call on the Chief Justice by some political activists to resign.
It said the agitation was uncalled for and encouraged the Chief Justice to withstand the current pressure and also resist all attempts from any political quarters to resign.
“Ghanaians are blessed for having a competent Chief Justice and we members of the Foundation commend her for her remarkable performance as the first Woman Chief Justice of the land”, a statement signed by Mr Okesseku Mintah- Afari, the Founder, and issued at the weekend in Kumasi, said.
The Judiciary it said, was an independent body and must at all times be allowed to work as such, devoid of intimidation, harassment and government interference.
The statement said, it behoves on political parties, civil society organisations and stakeholders to be supportive of the Chief Justice to reform the Judiciary, in order to strengthen it, to reduce the incidence of abuses and corruption, to enhance its image.
It said that, much as the call for the resignation of the Chief Justice was misdirected, it was a wake-up call on the judiciary to perform their duties with integrity and fairness without fear or favour.
