Dr. Aning appointed to WEF Council on Conflict Resolution

Dr. Kwesi Aning

The Director of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr. Kwesi Aning, has been appointed to the World Economic Forum’s Council on Conflict Resolution, according to an official statement issued in Accra on Tuesday.

The council provides strategic thinking on global issues of conflict resolution and helps set the agenda for the World Economic Forum’s Annual meetings in Geneva, Switzerland.

The statement said members of the Council had in the past included the former Prime Minister of Ireland, Bertie Ahern and Jonathan Powell, the Chief of Staff to former UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair, former UK Prime Minister.

Current members of the World Economic Forum’s Council on Conflict Prevention include heads of state, leaders of Non-Governmental Organizations, world renowned mediators and distinguished academics from around the world.

Dr Aning has been instrumental in developing practical courses in conflict prevention, management and resolution.

Prior to taking up this position in January 2007, he served as the African Union’s first Expert on Counter-terrorism, defence and security with responsibility for implementing the continental counter-terrorism strategy and oversight of the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) in Algiers, Algeria

His primary research interests deal with African security issues broadly, comparative politics, terrorism and conflicts.

Dr Aning has taught in several universities in Europe and Africa and has several publications to his name.
