Committee investigating Osu Children’s Home calls for recommendations from public
The Committee of Enquiry on the Osu Children’s Home is calling on the general public and stakeholders to submit recommendations aimed at assisting in caring and protecting children from harm at such orphanages.
A release signed by Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Chairman of the Committee, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday said the
committee would hold two public hearing sessions on Thursday, September 23 and Thursday September 30 at the Media Centre at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
The 11-member committee was established by the Minister of Employment and Social Welfare as a result of a video footage on the improprieties at the Home and the Labone Remand Home of the Department of Social Welfare by investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper.
“The general public is being invited to assist in instituting measures that will ensure that children under the care of these institutions are protected from harm and properly cared for to promote their normal growth and development into responsible adulthood,” the release said.
It said to facilitate its work the committee is appealing to the stakeholders and general public with relevant information to submit them in writing or by appearing at the committee.
