Chinese miners operate in Talensi-Nabdam District
The Human Resource Manager of the Shanxi Mining Company Limited, (SMCL) Mr. Joseph Anokye, has said the Company is providing services to two small scale mining groups in the region.
The two groups, known as Puboaataba and Nyennyeye, are amongst six small scale ventures with concessions in the Gbani area of Talensi Nabdam District.
He said this during a tour of the area by the Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo, who was accompanied by the District Chief Executive, Mrs. Vivian Anafo to the site.
Mr Anokye said the company generates about 50 tones of ore and employs about 500 people from the community and projects to produce 2,000 tones of ore in the near future.
He said though the SMCL is a year old, it had already provided furniture for a new school in the area and it had more plans to increase community services.
Mr Charles Taleog Ndanbon, Director of Puboaataba, said some group of small scale mining companies in the area were selected in 2009 to visit China.
As a result of the visit they got more assistance in the form of mining services from the Chinese, adding that they could now mine high quality ore and also reduce the intensive nature of labour used previously.
The Regional Minister appealed to the Chinese company to work hard and to carve a good relationship with the people and said the company should honour its corporate responsibility to the area.
