District Assemblies asked to venture into plastic recycling
Alhaji Issahaque Salia, Upper West Regional Minister, has asked the Municipal and District Assemblies to partner the Venture Capital Trust Fund (VCTF) to recycle plastic waste and other waste materials in their communities.
He said the venture would facilitate clean environment and job creation.
Alhaji Salia also tasked the assemblies to consider undertaking estate development projects to cater for the housing needs of workers and students.
The Regional Minister was addressing a cross section of small-scale businessmen, district chief executives, farmers and artisans in Wa, on Thursday at the opening of a VCTF sensitisation programme, christened: “The Road Show,” to introduce the work of the fund to entrepreneurs.
It was meant to sensitise entrepreneurs and the general public on the procedure for accessing funds through the Trust Fund’s, established venture capital finance companies and thereby quicken the pace of business transactions and expansion.
Alhaji Salia observed that Ghana’s quest to get the citizenry out of poverty, necessitated the implementation of different financial schemes, many of which had proven to be unsustainable.
He said providing jobs for the teaming unemployed youth and building the capacity of local entrepreneurs through venture capital financing could reverse the trend.
