57% of Ghana land classified as agriculture land

Ghana has an estimated area surface of 23.8 million hectares of land.

57% of that total land mass has been classified as agriculture land and that is 13.6 million hectares of land.

However, the Vice President, John Mahama has said that as at 2009 only 7.3 million hectares of that has been under cultivation, a report by the GNA has said.

Mahama was quoted as saying that “agriculture land under cultivation as at 2009 was 7.3 million hectares which constituted 54% of agriculture land.”

Ghana’s economy is largely agricultural. About 70% of all adults in employment  in Ghana work in the agric sector and the sector contributes about 45% of GDP.
