St. Monica’s S.H.S accommodates all 348 first year students
Saint Monica’s Senior High School at Asante Mampong, has made adequate provision to accommodate all the 348 fist year
students placed in the school by the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
According to Ms Mary Owusu Agyemang, the headmistress, 95 percent of work on a new dormitory block has been completed, whiles a six-classroom block is also 70 percent complete.
She, however, noted that, an arrangement has been made with St. Monica’s College of Education for an extra classroom, so that, fifty students could be accommodated in each of the acquired seven classrooms.
Ms Owusu-Agyemang was briefing a 13-member re-constituted board of governors of the school on the state of the school, at Asante Mampong on Thursday.
Professor (Mrs.) Ernestina Akosua Addy, a lecturer at the medical School of Kwame Nkrumah University of science and Technology (K.N.U.S.T) was elected the new board chairperson.
Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, who inaugurated the Board, observed that, the Ghana Education Service (GES) was committed in building a systematic approach to assisting community organisations to play a major part in the regeneration of schools.
Communities he said, play a major role in enforcing standards, develop and maintain school infrastructure and create meaningful partnership among teachers, pupils and the G.E.S.
He stated that, the board of governors had a responsibility to control the general policy of the school to improve education delivery.
Mr Onyinah advised the board members to assist the school authorities in solving conflicts and other acts that tends to undermine teaching and learning.
He, however, cautioned them against the tendency to encroach on the authority of the head of the school.
Prof Addy expressed her gratitude to the board members for the confident and trust reposed in her, and entreated them to co-operate and support her to build a new image as well as improving the moral and academic standard of the students.
