€67m Ada Sea Defence project to start in January 2011

Construction works on the Ada Sea Defence project, valued at 67 million Euros would take off in January 2011.

Feasibility studies have been completed while designing of the project is at the final stage, Mr Hubert Osei-Wusuansah, Deputy Director, Hydro of the Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing, made this known on Thursday at the construction site in Ada.

He said feasibility studies have been carried out from Ada Estuary to Sege, which is under the threat of erosion.

Mr Osei-Wusuansah told members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Water Resources Works and Housing who visited the site that the contract have been awarded to International Marine and Dredging Consultants, which is expected to complete the projects in two years.

He said the Environmental Protection Agency, had organised a forum on Environmental Impact Assessment with the community members.

Mr David Tetteh Assumeng, Chairman of the Committee expressed the hope that the contractor would speed up the work since the sea is fast destroying the ecology.
