Mobile wireless Internet service introduced in Western Region
The Western Regional Library of Ghana Library Board, has launched a pilot library and mobile wireless Internet service for schools and communities in the Ellembelle and Bia Districts.
Mr. Joseph Boye, the Regional Librarian, announced this on Wednesday when the facility arrived at Nkroful as part of a three-day tour of six communities in the districts.
The communities are Nkroful, Aiyinasi and Eikwe in the Ellembelle District and Oseikojokrom, Alluokrom and Essam Debiso in the Bia District.
Mr. Boye said the mobile library, which was started with borrowed books last year, was jointly initiated by the Ghana Library Board and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), in support of government’s policy to make information accessible to all Ghanaians.
He said GIFEC has supplied the Regional Library with five wireless computers, Internet connectivity for the mobile Internet service and 10 computers.
Mr. Boye said only one van was being used for the service, which would be extended to all the 17 districts of the Region if more vans are obtained.
