VRA to improve power supply – CEO
Mr Kweku A. Awotwi, Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), on Wednesday said management had embarked on interventions to improve its operations with regard to competition in the energy sector.
He announced this during awards to 172 staff who had worked between 10 to 40 years in Accra.
Mr Awotwi said the VRA had enjoyed monopoly in the energy sector for the past 49 years because the demand was not as heavy as now and in addition, the economy was growing with increase in industrial activities.
He said that to reward hard work and excellence, the VRA had introduced new employee’s performance management system with effect from January next year.
However, Mr Awotwi said management had placed premium on staff training and self development and would ensure the right calibre of personnel were recruited to manage its operations.
Mr J. B. Okpoti, Former Chief Executive Officer of Services, asked the staff to be more dedicated in their work and plan well for their retirement in order not to become a burden on society.
Mr Reginald Charway, Senior Administrative Assistant, who had worked for 40 years, received the highest award.
He was presented with a certificate and a plaque.
