Police arrest Depot Manager for stealing cocoa
Emmanuel Osei-Fofie, a depot manager of the Diaby Cocoa Buying Company at Barniekrom near Nyinahin, has been arrested by the police to help unravel the disappearance of 666 bags of cocoa valued at GH¢1.3 million.
His assistant, Yakubu Gariba, is on the run and the police have mounted an intensive search for him.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Fosu, Nyinahin District Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that on Friday, December 17, Osei-Fofie travelled out of his station to Banda in the Brong Ahafo Region for two days.
Before leaving, he handed over keys to the storehouse to Gariba, where the missing cocoa bags were been kept.
DSP Fosu said on his return, he detected that the storehouse had been ransacked as well as an unsuccessful attempt to set the place on fire.
He said information available to the police indicate that the missing cocoa were transported from the depot in a cargo truck, barely 48 hours after Osei- Fofie had left Barniekrom.
Gariba is believed to have brought in the vehicle to carry away the stolen cocoa.
