Bad weather in Europe – 30 Ghanaian exporters lose over $200,000
About 30 exporters in Ghana have lost an estimated $72,000 as a result of the grounding of 7,000 flights in Europe, due to the excessive snow that hit the continent during the yuletide.
They also lost an estimated $148,000 in freight charges.
Officials at the Aviance Cargo Village at the Kotoka International Airport(KIA), told the Ghana News Agency in Accra that as a result of the unavailability of storage facilities, perishable cargo got badly affected anytime there was no flight to carry the goods outside Ghana due to flight cancellation.
“Such situations led to the cargo going bad and becoming inexportable, resulting in loss to exporters,” said an official, who wanted to remain anonymous.
Some of the international aircrafts that were affected by the situation in Ghana were British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa airlines and Virgin Atlantic.
