Upper East appeals for drinking water, small irrigation schemes
Mr. Mark Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister, has appealed to the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) to provide more water to the region to address the peculiar water problems in the region.
He called on the board to put on their priority list the provision of boreholes.
Mr Woyongo made the call when the BoD of the agency paid a courtesy call on him as part of a nationwide tour to familiarize themselves with progress of work of the agency in various districts.
Mr. Woyongo also appealed to the board to diversify their operations into small irrigation schemes to enhance dry season gardening for farmers in the region.
Mr. Francis Yaw Garko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agency, told the Minister that management was working relentlessly to increase coverage of water supply.
He said the CWSA covered about 50 per cent of water coverage in the country and planned to work harder to address the constant water shortage in communities and nationwide.
He appealed to the Minister to help the agency to acquire land for the construction of its regional office to enhance water delivery.
Mr. Clement Bugase, Acting Chief Executive of the Agency, assured the minister that attention would be given to the region.
