Taxi drivers in Sunyani flout regulation
A civil servant on Wednesday appealed to the police to stop taxi drivers who are using the Coronation Park as an unauthorized car park.
The worst offenders are taxi drivers plying Sunyani to Duayaw-Nkwanta, Nsoatre, Terchire, Yamfo and Bechem.
Mr Charles Gyamfi said the Sunyani Municipal Assembly had allocated parking lots at the new lorry park at Nana Bosoma Market to all taxis in the municipality but some wayward taxi drivers had refused to use the new facility.
He said such taxi drivers had abandoned the allocated booking points and rather picked and dropped passengers wherever they liked.
Mr Gyamfi said the recalcitrant drivers continue to multiply in the area everyday, posing great inconvenience to pedestrians.
Mr Gyamfi dismissed the claim by the errant drivers that patronage was low at the Nana Bosoma Market Station because passengers complained they found it difficult walking the distance.
He said when the new station was opened for use some passengers found it a problem to go there “but now the situation has changed because passengers have got used to the station”.
