Criminal cases on the decline in Upper West

The Upper West Regional Police Command says it has been recording a decline in criminal cases in the region since 2008.

Total number of crime cases reported in 2008 was 2,035 but this was reduced to 1,431 and 1,319 in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Anthony Danso told the GNA in Wa on Thursday that 200 cases were sent to court in 2008, 153 in 2009 and 170 in 2010.

He said 52 persons each were convicted in 2008 and 2010 while 2009 recorded 67 convictions.

ASP Danso attributed the decrease in criminal activities in the region to the pragmatic measures put in place by the Police and the zeal, willingness and commitment on the part of individual police personnel towards fighting crime.

He appealed to the public to support the police to eliminate crime by reporting criminals, their hideout and activities to the police.
