Court orders arrest of journalist who failed to appear before it
A Circuit Court in Accra on Friday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Ferdinand Annoh, a journalist for failing to appear before it.
Annoh is standing trial for allegedly issuing a dud cheque to a businessman whom he bought a 4×4 vehicle valued at GH¢14,000.
Charged for issuing dud cheque, Annoh pleaded not guilty and was granted GH¢20,000 cedis bail.
The case as presented by Police Chief Inspector Charles Chester said the complainant was a businessman. He said in March 2010 Annoh bought a Tata Safari 4×4 from the complainant but could not pay the amount instantly.
Chief Inspector Chester said Annoh pleaded with the complainant and issued a cheque with the face value of the amount GH¢14,000 to be cashed on May 28, 2010 at Prudential Bank.
Based on trust the complainant collected the cheque and released the vehicle and its documents to the accused.
The prosecutor said when the complainant went to cash the money the cheque was dishonoured.
The complainant therefore, lodged a complainant with the Striking Force Unit of the Ghana Police Service and accused was arrested.
During his arrest he pleaded with the Police to give him a month to pay the amount but he could not honour his promise.
