Immigration officers asked to allow only genuine travellers into the country

Mr Victor Nyanyi Kablan, District Chief Executive for Jomoro, on Saturday appealed to Immigration Officers along the borders to ensure that only travellers with genuine travelling documents were allowed entry into the country.

He said as security officers at the country’s entry points, they should always ensure that only people with good character and not security threat to the nation, were allowed to enter the country.

Mr Koblan made the appeal at a three-day workshop organised by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for 30 Immigration Officers from the western frontier of Half Assini in the Western Region.

The Western Frontier is made up of Immigration Officers at Jewi Wharf, Elubo, Takoradi and Dadieso.

It was organised by the Document Fraud Expertise Centre of the Ghana Immigration Service under the theme; “Document Fraud Detection”.

Mr Kablan asked the officers to visit the internet periodically to update their knowledge on current events and desist from acts that could tarnish the their own image and that the service.

Three senior officers from the Document Fraud Expertise Centre, Mr Charles Yaw Bediako, Mr Land Ghani and Ms Veronica Arizie, who were resource persons, took the participants through topics including Paper Making, Printing Techniques and Security Features.

Mr Bediako said the GIS Head Office used to receive refers from foreign embassies and High Commissions for their verification hence the need for the workshop.

He said similar workshops had been organised for the officers in the Northern and Upper East Regions.

The DCE, on behalf of the GIS, presented a 290 Euro Document Fraud Detector Gadget with kit and Regular Document Tester to the Elubo Sector of the Ghana Immigration Service to enhance their work.
