Dr Bawumia appointed as AfDB Country Director for Zimbabwe
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has appointed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, an economist and former Deputy Governor of Ghana’s Central Bank, as the Bank’s Resident Representative to Zimbabwe.
A statement issued in Accra copied the Ghana News Agency said the AfDB’s engagement in Zimbabwe followed the request by the Government, with the backing of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), for the African Development Bank, as the premier African multilateral development institution, to take a lead role in assisting Zimbabwe on the re-engagement with the international community.
Dr. Bawumia, a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for the Study of African Economies, University of Oxford, has a reputation as an accomplished technocrat and skilled policy maker who played a key role in the successful implementation of a wide range of economic and financial reforms in Ghana during the last decade.
He holds a Bachelor’s, Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from the University of Buckingham (U.K), University of Oxford (Lincoln College), UK, and Simon Fraser University (Canada).
He is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (UK) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Ghana).
