Ensure timely submission of insurance claims
Health facilities have been advised to ensure timely submission of claims to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for prompt payment.
Mr Augustine Aboagye, Ashanti Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), said health facilities should also acquaint themselves with the new drugs list covered by the insurance.
He warned that drugs prescribed outside the list would not be paid for. Under the new arrangement, health centres are not permitted to manage certain cases and cannot prescribe certain drugs.
He was addressing a stakeholders meeting to deliberate on effective ways to tackle problems bedevilling the scheme in Kumasi, on Wednesday.
It brought together representatives of the various hospitals, health centres, clinics, maternity homes and pharmacy shops.
Mr Aboagye underlined their determination to remove all acts of corruption and to make sure that the right things were done to sustain the scheme.
He counselled the health centres and maternity wives to refer cases that are beyond their competence to the district and regional hospitals.
Mr Anthony Agyemang, Claims Manager of the Asokwa Sub-Metro, said the NHIA was eager to see to it that service providers received prompt payment for claims they put in.
