Stability in cement prices is due to competition – Dr Tweneboa
Dr Alexander Tweneboa, President of Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) on Wednesday attributed stability in the price of cement to competition between imported and locally manufactured cement.
“It is due to this competition that the cement price has stabilised as against the regular arbitrarily price increase in the past”, he added.
This was contained in a statement issued in Accra.
Dr Tweneboa said some members of GREDA, the main user of locally manufactured cement, were using a brand of imported cement which they acquired legally and honestly.
“Our members who have used the cement reported nothing but good things about the cement “, he said.
Dr Tweneboa said there were three acceptable grades of cement by the Ghana Standards Board (GSB) with levels of insoluble residue differing from each other.
They are Ordinary Portland Cement, Portland Limestone Cement and Portland Limestone/Dolomitic Limestone Cement.
He said the Global Premium Cement imported by some members of GREDA fell under the classification and perfectly acceptable for all types of construction.
“The imported cement members are using has been passed by both GSB and International Inspection Agencies”, he said.
