Cape Coast to get ultra modern market
Mr. Anthony Egyir Aikins, Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Cape Coast, on Tuesday received the architectural design for the ultra modern market complex to be built at Kotokuraba, in Cape Coast.
It was presented by Mr. Ekow Sam, architect of the project.
The project to be financed with concessionary loan from the Chinese Government, will be supported by the Government of Ghana and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA).
A crowd including market queens and traders converged at the CCMA hall to observe the presentation of the document and to deliberate on it for the necessary changes.
Mr. Sam said the market would have supermarkets, banks, a clinic, sanitation facilities, parking lots, restaurants and storage facilities.
He said there would be adequate lighting and ventilation at the market and it would be easily accessible to physically disabled persons.
Mr. Aikins said the traders would be relocated before the construction of the market.
He said the construction of a modern market was of a great concern to the Assembly and gave the assurance that work will commence before the end of the year because it is an “action year”.
The Kotokuraba market queen, Nana Ama Esia, said it has been the dream of the traders that the Kotokuraba and Kotoka markets would be given a facelift and called for the early execution of the project.
She said that the traders were ready to temporarily relocate to facilitate the construction of the market and called on all traders to cooperate with the authorities to ensure early completion of work.
