Lack of unity and transparency affecting CPP – Samia Nkrumah

Ms. Samia Nkrumah, aspiring Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has identified lack of unity, transparency, honesty and sincerity on the part of the CPP leadership, as the major stumbling block affecting the party.

Ms. Nkrumah made the observation, when she addressed the Party’s Executive members, drawn from the 13 constituencies, in the Upper East Region, to solicit for their votes.

She attributed the party’s abysmal performance in the three elections, held in the country, to the fragmented nature of the party and said unity was needed for the party to come to power.

She said there were clear indications that Ghanaians were fed up with the rules New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and were fully ready to vote for the CPP.

“We have a lot of goodwill and support waiting for us, but unless we become united and transparent in our actions, honesty and sincere among ourselves, it would be very difficult for us to get that support to enable us to win the 2012 election”.

Ms Nkrumah noted that, there were a lot of CPP members, who have defected to other parties because of the lack of unity, transparency, honesty and sincerity, and said, there were indications that they would return to the party if the problems within the party were addressed.

“If we don’t demonstrate transparency, sincerity and honesty within our own house, how can we lead the entire Ghanaians, when we come to power?” she questioned.

She noted that the ideology of Nkrumah was still very relevant to the development of the nation and it was only the CPP which would be able to champion those ideals to alleviate Ghanaians from their plight.

Ms. Nkrumah dismissed claims by some members of the party that she was inexperienced, and said, “if I was inexperienced, I would not have won the Jomoro Constituency seat which was contested by the NDC and NPP candidates”.

She appealed to the party’s executives to dismiss such notions and vote for her to become the Chairperson, to lead the Party to victory in 2012.

She said the CPP needed a leader, who was a visionary and could attract more votes.

She said when given the nod she would establish a constituency development fund, to take care of the administration of the constituencies through out the country.

She lamented about the recent survey, conducted by the Ghana News Agency, about the inadequate offices of the Party in the Greater Accra Region and questioned how such a party could win power.

Ms. Samia Nkrumah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, pledged to provide more offices and logistics for the party’s offices in the Regions, to facilitate their work, adding that, as part of measures to ensure transparency within the party, the accounting and monetary system of all constituencies, Regional and National levels would be computerized.

She stated that, one of her ambitions would be to focus on getting more parliamentarians for the party and to also reconnect to the grassroots, by decentralizing decision-making, and providing strong and regular communication mechanisms.

She called on the party’s executive members to change the Political Education Programmes in their campaign messages, by repackaging them, based on the elements of self-reliance, self-mobilization and getting to the grassroots levels and strengthening good communication links.

She presented an office accommodation and a television set to the party’s regional office.
