UK asks Ghana to influence Commonwealth’s future

The UK government is asking Ghana to take the full opportunity available to it as Chair of the Ministerial Action Group in order to influence the future of the Commonwealth organisation.

In a press release copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, Matthew Johnson acting British High Commissioner to Ghana, said the year 2011 offers full opportunities for the country to take the centre-stage in the affairs of the Commonwealth.

“Indeed 2011 is a year full of opportunities for Ghanaian leadership in the organisation. As Chair of the Ministerial Action Group, Ghana is in a position to direct the way core Commonwealth values and principles are upheld”, Mr Johnson said in a Commonwealth Day message to mark the celebrations today March 14, 2011.

“And with Ghanaian influence on the Eminent Persons Group, through Dr Emmanuel Akwetey, Ghana has the opportunity to both influence the organisation’s future and raise the impact and profile of the organisation on the world stage”, he added.
