Rainstorm displaces scores of people at Wawase
A heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, swept through Wawase, in the Afigya-Kwabre District, at the weekend and wrecked a number of houses that left scores of people displaced.
It removed the roofs of many buildings while others had their fence walls collapsing.
Electricity poles in the town also collapsed, plunging the area into darkness.
Mr Michael Kyei-Mensah, the Zonal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that there were no casualties.
The displaced were putting up with friends and relatives.
He described the scale of damage as extensive, saying many people lost their property to the rainstorm.
Mr Kyei-Mensah said the rains also destroyed a considerable number of food crops and farms in the area.
NADMO, he said, is arranging for relief items, and is currently assessing the extent of the damage.
