Asamoah ‘Baby Jet’ Gyan grabs another top award

Ghanaian football superstar, Asamoah Gyan, popularly known as ‘Baby Jet’ has been named Ghana’s most popular entertainer for the year 2010. He received two awards at the Most Popular Entertainer in Ghana (MPEG) award ceremony in Accra.

After winning the BBC African best footballer and runner up as CAF’s best footballer last year, the Sunderland striker also won the most entertaining football personality for the year 2010 at the MPEG awards night which was held on Saturday March 19, 2011.

The player’s awards were attributed to his immense contribution to the Ghana national soccer team Black Stars, especially during the South Africa 2010 World Cup and the way the player celebrates each time he scores a goal in a match with his dancing moves.

Gyan’s entering into the music profession with a hit song “African Girls” featuring musician Castro, still a most liked music, was also a factor for his winning the awards.

Receiving the awards on his behalf, the senior brother, footballer Baffour Gyan, said he believes the awards will motivate the player to do greater things for the country.

Personalities like Amakye Dede, musician, Kofi Adu (Agya Koo), film actor, Nana Aba Anamoah, TV3 news anchor and Funny Face, a comedian were all awarded.

Other awardees were radio presenter Fiifi Banson, boxer Joseph Agbeko, actress Dzifa Glikpoe and others.

Musicians like Okyeame Kwame, Bertha of Stars of the Future fame and Kofi Bee performed at MPEG.

Ecstatic live band performance from the only women’s band in West Africa, Dela Hayes and Dzesi Band, added more excitement to the show.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Mr Agyenim Boateng was at the ceremony.

MPEG Awards was an FDD Consult event.
